Long Beach has five Family Law courtrooms (Departments S-10, S-11, S-14, S-15, and S-16) with Judges in all Departments. For those that remember the San Pedro Courthouse; all domestic violence cases that were heard in San Pedro are now heard in Long Beach or downtown Los Angeles. San Pedro divorce lawyers and family law attorneys must file their cases in the Long Beach Courthouse, (within walking distance of my office), or downtown Los Angeles. All five courtrooms are located on the 3rd floor as is the Self-Help Center, the Family Law Facilitator, Mediation and Child Custody Evaluators. Last, but not least the court library is now located on the 3rd floor on the right when you go into the Mediator’s office. There are two computers that have online access to all the information that used to be contained in volumes upon volumes of books. As a result of Covid, all Family Law hearings may be attended remotely though judges usually require that trials, evidentiary hearings and restraining orders be attended in person.
